Hi Everyone,
Don't forget, our pack meeting is rescheduled from Thursday this week to Tuesday. We are going to have a meeting starting at 5:30 at the Lynnwood REI. It should be awesome! We were moved because of REI's previously scheduled sale this weekend and the many boxes thereabouts that would be in the way of our group.
We sure hope to see you there!
If anyone needs Light of Christ or Parvuli Dei books for their cubs, I can send them along with my husband, Francis. They are $6 each.
Have fun!
Ann Marie

temporary calendar problems
Hello....
We have geeky problems at our house, in which trying to solve one bug on our own google calendar and make Outlook work with it did not quite work out so well. Thank you, Rob, for pointing out that my entire calendar was up there for viewing! ACK!
We will try to fix the problem tomorrow and hopefully the calendar will be up and running again soon.
God bless,
Ann Marie

The Calendar has been updated
Dear Scouts,
Please see the email I sent out today regarding our calendar and upcoming events for August, Sept. and Oct. I think I got everything on the calendar, and we look forward to an exciting year! Hooray!
If you know of Catholic cubs in other packs, please let them know that we are very willing to host them as they earn their religious medals, such as Parvuli Dei and Light of Christ. Our pack holds these awards dear, and sometimes they aren't as recognized in other packs, so we'd like to help people by hosting their interview and helping them along with whatever they need.
Have a wonderful August!

Pictures from camp!
Dear Pack 18,
I hope to post more and more info on this blog, but for now, I'd like to post some pictures taken at Resident Camp at Fire Mountain in July. Camp is one of the best things about scouting, and the price is always amazingly low, thanks to wonderful efforts during popcorn sales. (Hint, hint). There is also a picture from the Memorial Day Parade in Mill Creek.
If you would like to see your kids on here, please send me pictures at amdelroze@yahoo.com!
I plan to put up a schedule soon which will list our meetings and events for at least September and October, since the school year is nearly upon us. Get out those calendars! We look forward to another active and fun year!

Please contact Jackson's to do 4th of July Parade
Hello Pack,
We have a spot in the 4th of July Parade in Everett! Please, please consider making this a part of your weekend. We only need a few scouts, and it's a pretty neat experience! Please email or call Marie or Ralph Jackson. They did quite a bit of work to get us in there, so if you can spare the time, I know they'd really appreciate it.
Happy Father's Day!!

Happy Summer! Welcome to Pack 18!
Hello All,
Summer has begun, and I know many of us are attending camps and have many family activities planned for the summer. So much to do! And what great weather!
I am pretty sure our google calendar is updated correctly, but if you see something, please let me know at amdelroze@yahoo.com so I can fix it.
Tonight is the new Webelos and Tiger Scouts meeting from 5-6pm at St. Mary Magdalen Parish Hall. I'll be there with my new Webelos and Tiger kids, and I'm looking forward to meeting some of our new families!
I wanted to give a cheer for the cubs who marched in the Memorial Day parade in Mill Creek. It was a very good parade with all branches of the military represented and many a veteran to be seen. Just wonderful!
I have also been working on a letter to post on the website for St. Mary Magdalen Parish. Please feel free to ask for a copy of this letter, and I will post it here for all to read. We are looking forward to another exciting year with an ever growing pack of fine young boys and their families!
God bless,
Ann Marie
Welcome to St. Mary Magdalen Cub Scout Pack 18!
Pack 18 has been a part of St. Mary Magdalen of Everett since 1962, making it one of Washington State’s oldest cub scout packs. We teach our cubs the basic principles of scouting in the spirit of our treasured Catholic beliefs and traditions. We strongly believe that the bonds of our family at home and at church help our boys reach their full potential. Scouting has a positive impact for life!
Pack 18 works hard to meet high standards for cub scout packs, for both adults and cubs, and we have received a variety of awards over the years. We make it a point for our cubs to work toward the Light of Christ and the Parvuli Dei religious emblems, which are recognized both at our parish and at Emblem Sunday in Seattle in May. The Light of Christ compliments first communion preparation nicely! Cubs from other faiths can work toward religious awards of their choosing. Scouting strengthens the whole family through its activities.
Our cub scout pack is organized into smaller age groups called “dens”. A Pack Committee, comprised of parents of cubs in all age groups, organizes the group. The Cub Master leads the Pack meetings, and den leaders lead each den. Each month, a pack meeting and a den meeting are held. There is also a committee meeting each month, and each den holds a monthly “Go-See-It”, or “field trip”. The Go-See-It is always educational, and some past trips include fire stations, museum tours, and aircraft carrier tours. Singing carols for the elderly or cleaning up a park are common activities for our scouts as well. A wonderful sense of camaraderie is built for our boys as they partake in such activities as a Pinewood Derby, popcorn sales, and a bike rodeo during our Pack meetings. Every summer several different camps are offered, which help the boys achieve many of their requirements for the year while having a blast learning new things and meeting new friends. There is even a camp for siblings provided!
Starting in first grade, the dens are called Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and then Webelos. The Webelos den is a two part den, and midway through their second year in Webelos, the Pack hosts a “crossover” ceremony with our Troop 18 Boy Scouts. Each month of the year has pre-planned activities, with lots of room for ideas and improvisation. Leaders are provided with online training and lots of other training opportunities throughout the Mt. Baker Council area (see www.mtbakerbsa.org). Many of our cubs have gone on to Boy Scouts and completed their rank of Eagle Scout. Our own Pack 18 has a blog at www.smmpack18.blogspot.com as well. We invite whole families to attend our pack meetings and we often have a hotdog dinner before we start.
All boys ages 7-11 are welcome to Pack 18, and for ages 11-17, our Troop 18 has much to offer! All boys, regardless of religious affiliation or which kind of schooling they receive, are welcome to join. Because we are a Catholic chartered organization, many of our activities will be Catholic in nature.
Please check out or next Pack Meeting! Every 4th Thursday at 6:30 pm at St. Mary Magdalen Parish Hall during school months.

Please note change of location May 3
Hello All,
It looks like this year the Emblem Sunday celebration will be held on Sunday May 3 at St. George's Catholic Church, not at St. James Cathedral. Please take note and meet us at 1:30 if you can. If you received a Light of Christ or Parvuli Dei, you will be recognized. Also, our entire pack is recognized for the Pope Paul VI award nearly every year, and we are the only pack to earn it most years.
See you there!

March News You Can Use
Hello Scout families,
I will try to update the calendar and slide show soon, but meanwhile, here is this month's news so far. Get those Derby Cars ready!!
News You Can Use --- St. Mary Magdalen Pack 18 --- March News
Congratulations on a successful annual Blue and Gold Dinner!
First of all, we want to thank you all for a memorable Blue and Gold Banquet that was orchestrated by the Web1 and Bear Den 3, and especially the following individuals: Paul and Joyce Crocker, Heidi and Johnny Barrett, Marie Jackson, Ann Marie del Rosario, and Rob and Lisa Andrews.
Friends of Scouting: If you have not had a chance to participate, then please contact Catherine Bui at (425)347-1196 or your den leader to pledge. No payment is needed at this time. Friends of Scouting and our popcorn sales are what keep camp costs low in the summer. We’re paying very little for a several days of fun because of these funds and because of volunteers like you! It takes a village to raise a child, indeed!
Day Camp: Payment for children attending day camp at Silver Lake is due at the next den meeting on 3/12. Only $25 per Cub for a whole week fun filled activities! The Silver Lake camps are held on different weeks this summer. One is a day camp, held in the morning, and one is a twilight camp, which goes from 5pm til nearly 9pm. Contact your den leader if you have not received the applications. You can also sign up siblings for “Tag-a-Long” camp, both boy and girl, as long as they are no longer in diapers. It’s a great experience for all!
Day Camp is August 17-20th
Twilight Camp is July 20-24th
Resident (overnight) camp for Webelos is July 7-11th and will be addressed later this year.
Den Meeting: Thursday, March 12, 5:00 pm. Let your den leader know if your Cubs have any accomplishments, especially Rank Advancement.
Pack Meeting: On Thursday, March 26th, we’ll be having our annual Pinewood Derby. Don’t forget to start on those cars, soon, and siblings may also make cars, though they cannot enter the official races. The evening of Wednesday, March 25th, there will be a “weigh-in”, usually in one of the portables. If your cub wants to race, they must bring their car to the weigh-in and leave it overnight so all will be fair for the next day’s races. Please bring the car in a labeled container. Shoeboxes are great for this.
Service Project: Serve Soup Supper on Friday, March 13 from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm in the Parish Hall. Cubs who wear their uniform and serve will receive an award segment. Just show up at the right time and place if you are able to help.

We will hand out Pinewood Derby cars at our January meeting. I am making changes to the calendar today, so please update as you need to.
