January News You Can Use

Please make notes of any of the following news, and please volunteer to help in some small way. All the jobs add up and we do great together!

January 2009 NEWS YOU CAN USE
Pack 18 – St. Mary Magdalen

• Congratulation to the following Cubs who completed their Religious Emblem Interviews:
•
Parvuli Dei: Lark Cummings, Kristor Cummings, Daniel Haub, Nathan Crocker, Gabriel del Rosario, John Paul Gaston, Derek Oylear, Joseph Jackson, Ralph Jackson, and John Andrews

Light of Christ: Joseph Andrews, Dalton Oylear
We were also helpful to two cubs from other packs:
Aaron Fischer of Pack 95 finished his Light of Christ, and Michael Cooper of Pack 189 completed his Parvuli Dei.

Thank you so much to all the adults who helped make that special night happen!

• Promoting and recruiting opportunity: All Masses on Sat Jan 24 – Sun Jan 25. Have your Cubs wear their uniforms at one of the weekend masses and with your family stick around our display table after Mass to attract and talk to other families about our Pack.

• Our Scout Sunday event will be held during the February 8th Noon Mass – All Scouts are encouraged to show reverence by attending their religious faith gathering on this particular Sunday. SMM calls for all Cub and Boy Scouts and their families to attend the noon mass. We will assemble in front of the Religious Ed. office by 11:30 am. All Scouts and leaders are expected to be in full uniform. Fr. Olsen will be recognizing our scouts who finished their religious emblem work this year at the Mass.

o There are positions to be filled such as altar server, usher, greeter, offertory of gifts, extraordinary minister, etc. Please sign up with Catherine Bui at (425)347-1196.

• Pinewood Derby - Every Cub should have received a pinewood derby kit by the January Pack Meeting. Contact your den leader if yours needs one. Please use the rules and regulations as provided. Contact Cubmaster, Paul Crocker, at (425)334-4720 if you have any questions. The Pinewood Derby will be held at our March meeting, with the weigh-in being held the night beforehand. At the weigh-in, bring a box for the car to be held in overnight.

o The Galaxy Hobby Store at 196th & H 99 in Lynnwood (425) 670-0454 has a band saw for cutting and shaping the pinewood car at free of charge. The store hours are: 10 am – 7 pm weekdays, 10 am – 6 pm Saturday, 12 pm – 5 pm Sunday. Also, please let your den know if you have the equipment needed to shape cars in your garage. It really helps out those who can’t really store that kind of equipment.

• Rank Advancement – Bravo! Many Cubs have almost completed all requirements for their ranks. Be sure to report to your den leader. Keep it up! Do your best! Take a peek in your cub’s book and see what else needs to be done.

• Our February Pack Meeting will be on 2/26/2009. This will be our yearly Blue & Gold Banquet and it starts at 6:00pm sharp. Each family should have a couple of invitations to send to relatives, friends and neighbors. Contact Lisa Andrews at (425)379-9268. RSVP is needed by 2/12/2009, including all guests.

Religious Awards Update

Hello Pack 18,

I sent out an email recently asking about this, so please disregard if you already replied.
I had many emails missing from my last list.

If your child would like to complete the book for the Parvuli Dei medal or the Light of Christ medal, please let me know. If you don't have a book yet, I have many, so please let me know. They are full of activities and discussions and are for your family to do together with your cub on your own.

They are due at the end of December, and during the first week or so of January, John DeBroeck will be interviewing your cubs in groups as a requirement for the medal. Fr. Olson will be honoring these cubs at Scout Sunday in February.

Please let me know what your cub is working on if you have not done so already. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks!
